FAQs

General Shelter Information

1. Who can stay at the shelter?

HSHS offers 18 long-term beds. We accept guests 18 or older. We do not discriminate against the basis of age, color, disability, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, or veteran or marital status.

2. How does the waitlist process work?

Interested clients can apply by filling out our waitlist application form. Beds are assigned first-come, first-serve, and all guests who do not receive a bed will automatically be placed on a first-come, first-serve waitlist. If a bed opens up, we will contact the person at the top of the waitlist. In order to stay on the waitlist, you must be available to answer calls and communication from HSHS Guest Services.

3. Can couples or families stay together?

All interested clients must fill out individual waitlist applications. We do not do joint entries.

4. Is HSHS a dry, damp, or wet shelter?

HSHS is a DRY shelter and does not allow the use of any alcohol, non-prescribed drugs, or illicit substances in the space.

5. How long can guests keep their bed?

Guests can keep their bed for the entirety of the shelter season. HSHS has two seasons: the summer season and the winter season. The summer season is open from mid-June to early August. The winter season is open from mid-October to mid-April.

We are open from 7 PM to 8 AM the following day. On Saturdays, we are open until 9 AM.
